Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Bercy, Paris June 06 2013

Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Bercy, Paris June 06 2013
LOS LOBOS
Almost sold-out show for Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Paris Bercy with 15 000 people.
LOS LOBOS did a good job opening, like a heavier version of Canned Heat with some heavy and greasy guitar sound for some songs and some latino sound for other songs including of course "La bamba"

Lots of dedicated fans for Neil Young down the front.
Very long intro to the sound of The Beatles' "Day in the life" as the roadies are getting the stage ready then as the band is getting and lining up on stage, to the sound of "La Marseillaise".
Crazy Horse is heavy stuff with lots of heavy guitars with very long outro specially at the end of "Walk like a Giant" which sounded like a version of Lou Reed's Metal Machine. That was a bit too much and too long on this one.
Nice acoustic part with "heart of Gold", Bob Dylan's " Blowin' " and Neil on piano for the next song.
then back to some heavy guitars with a funny version of "Fuckin' Up" on which the band had some fun.
It's the same setlist on every show on this tour apart for the Encore, for Paris only one song: " Rockin' in a free world".

setlist: [from Sugar Mountain]

Sixto Rodriguez @ Cigale, show N°3, Paris June 05 2013

Sixto Rodriguez @ Cigale, show N°3, Paris June 05 2013
  SIXTO RODRIGUEZ : Résurrection à la Cigale.Hallelujah !!!
Hard to believe, after probably the worst shows I've been to this year 2013, that RODRIGUEZ will be alive & kicking tonight !
8:30 pm and Rodriguez is getting on stage. He has a voice, the band is playing better, the atmosphere is religious with real fans attending and not some of the posh bitches I saw at the Zénith for both shows. We even had a couple of youngsters getting on stage to sing with him and thank him. That was fun and harmless but not very respectful to a 70 year old man !
Ok he's still asking for wine between songs , but his valet was reluctant giving some to him so he had to be patient to have a glass... for the better.
His voice was a bit weak after a few songs but much better than yesterday.
Still lots of cover songs tonight: "La vie en rose","c'est si bon",  "I only have eyes for you", Carl Perkins' "Blue suede shoes", Bob Dylan's" Like a rolling stone"and a couple of ohers, some of his own songs are edited but we had a VERY GOOD SHOW. It was night & Day compare to the Zénith shows !
70 min show
Hallelujah !!!

anyone has the complete setlist ?

Sixto Rodriguez @ Zénith , show n°2, Paris June 04 2013

Sixto Rodriguez  @ Zénith , show n°2, Paris June 04 2013

Another sold-out show for RODRIGUEZ @ the 6500 seats capacity Zénith in Paris.
Another sad show: the voice is weak, songs are under-rehearsed (in fact not at all I've been told), Rodriguez is editing songs, constantly asking for more wine between songs.
Sometimes I was wondering if I was not at a Peter Doherty show.
So sad.
Many people left before the end, and after talking to many people They all thought it was pathetic and that his family should leave him alone now that he's successful and has money.
Couldn't be more true.

Sixto " Sugarman" Rodriguez @ Zénith 1st show, Paris June 03 2013

Contact: Irockinparis@yahoo.fr

Rodriguez + Jill is Lucky @ Zénith 1st show, Paris June 03 2013

Thanks to OLIVER PEEL I've discovered cult musician Rodriguez just after he played his first ever ( and sold-out) show in Paris @ Nouveau Casino on June 01 2009. Of course Oliver, the lucky Bastard, was at the gig. Oliver offered me both his records for my birthday a few months later and I've been listening to them constantly since. Fantastic records !!! Many People are comparing him to the best records of Bob Dylan, I guess they're right, but I've never been a hard-core B. Dylan fan.
Needless to tell you my expectations were high  as I've been waiting for this moment for 4 years and needless to tell you that the movie "Sugarman",  its success and its quality I've raised my expectations  higher.
All shows are sold-out: 2 Zénith and 1 Cigale.
The audience:  from Posh young girls (many)  to old hippies ( a few). Going to Rodriguez is the Hip place to be/go , just heard a girl waiting in line telling her friend on the phone " I'm going to Rodriguez , Isn't that cool !! But I don't know any of his songs" Nice way to start !!!

Down the front before Jill is lucky starts playing I can see a bit more of the audience around me: a whole posh/ultra catho family, feels like being at the local church party/bazaar. What the Fuck ?!?

Anyway, Rodriguez is escorted onto the stage by 3 people , I guess that now that he is a rock-star he can afford it.
Unfortunately he seems to be a bit lost on this huge stage and a bit nervous, his voice is very weak and we can barely hear his acoustic guitar.
From all the Live videos I've seen on Youtube where he was really playing, now things have changed he's "acting" a Rock-star on stage.
To get things worse, Songs are under-rehearsed, the band is trying to follow him but it's far from being tight. In fact there was no rehearsals.and when Rodriguez is losing the rhythm because the band is not playing the right thing he's editing the song.
Of course like at all his gigs he's not only playing his own songs but he's doing a few covers "dead end street"... including a short " La vie en Rose" for Paris.
This is just above average.
I guess I'm the only one feeling (very) disappointed as all my neighbors seem to enjoy themselves.
75 min show
I have my ticket for tomorrow I hope his voice will be back after a good night sleep.

setlist shortly
